Someone FULL of years asked me this in such a mournful way. The following scripture made me think of her:
Surely you have things turned around!
Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay;
For shall the thing made say of him who made it,
"He did not make me"?
Or shall the thing formed say of him
who formed it,
"He has no understanding?"
Isaiah 29:16
Thank you for posting that scripture. My daughter is 3 and told me she wished her hair was like my straight hair. I told her, "I wish I had curly hair like you. It is so pretty and I can put so many different styles in your hair. Mommy's hair doesn't curl and I can't do very much with it." She smiled at me and said "Yea Mommy my hair is pretty! I like my hair." I have 3 daughters and I am hoping they will continue to have the desire to stay natural as they get older. I love their hair just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this, Natasha. I have been thinking that God is an artist and God has made so many different kinds of beauty. Whyever could I, who can't make hair grow out of anything, say to the Creator that he did a bad job with what grows out of my body?
ReplyDelete@My2gurlz--I think all we can do is foster self acceptance and pray they make choices that honor it. Your daughters are precious.
ReplyDelete@Ruthy--Exactly. I'm still marveling.
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying your blog so much. I have been so blessed to adopt my beautiful biracial daughter through foster care and my biggest challenge has been dealing with her hair. Thank you so much for the reminder that He knows what He's doing - and who am I to question the wisdom of giving her super duper curly hair. I'm going to try the aloe vera tip as soon as I can. Thank you so much,
